Chasing the Northern Lights — Iceland & Finland

A group of 45 in Iceland, a small group of 11 in Lapland — huskies, reindeer and a night in a glass igloo.

Within four months, two very different groups went looking for the same thing: the aurora borealis.

Iceland — October 26 to November 1, 2024

The first was a classic group of 45 travelers on Iceland’s Magical Northern Lights, timed for the long, dark nights of late autumn — prime aurora season. The photos came home captioned “Iceland Memories.”

Finland — February 13–20, 2025

The second was a small-group Collette tour, capped at 24 and in the end just 11 travelers, to Helsinki and on to Ivalo in Finnish Lapland. The winter itinerary read like a storybook:

  • A husky safari through snowy forest
  • A reindeer sleigh ride
  • A night in a glass igloo, watching the sky
  • A stay in a traditional log cabin

The photos came home captioned “Enjoying a Winter Wonderland in Finland.”

Big group or small?

Side by side, the two trips made a point Mary loves to share: whether it’s a small exploration group or a group of 45, everyone is there for the same reasons.

“We’re all here to learn about the culture, food and history of the country, have fun and enjoy life!”
