Some journeys are about more than sightseeing. In September 2024 — the year of the 80th anniversary of D-Day — a group traveled to England and France on Memorials of World War II, September 16–25.

Following the path of history

The itinerary traced the story of the invasion from beginning to end:

  • London and Portsmouth, with a WWII-focused look at both cities and the D-Day Story Museum
  • A crossing of the English Channel
  • Juno, Omaha and Utah Beaches
  • Arromanches and the gun battery at Longues-sur-Mer
  • Pointe du Hoc and the Airborne Museum
  • The Caen Peace Memorial
  • The Normandy American Cemetery, overlooking Omaha Beach

And moments of peace

Alongside the solemn stops were gentler ones: an apple cider farm in the Normandy countryside, Monet’s gardens at Giverny, and a Seine River dinner cruise in Paris.

Remembering, together

Patriotism and remembrance run deep in our travel family — from the WWII Memorial on our Washington, D.C. bus trip to this journey to the beaches themselves.

Normandy returns on France Magnifique Discovery in April 2028, with the D-Day landing sites, Omaha Beach and the American Cemetery on the itinerary.
